Magazines Past

Page history last edited by thao_bui 11 years, 5 months ago

Here is a video which provides a cursory summary about history of American magazine industry from 1900 to today.

[48]

The Magazine Past will go through these three sections:

History of Magazines through periods of time

  1. The First Magazines
  2. Colonial Magazines
  3. National Magazines
  4. Some popular magazines in other countries

Social and Political Issues

  1. Social Reform and The Muckrakers
  2. The Domination of Specialization of Magazines

Technology Innovations

  1. The Printing Press
  2. Engravings and Illustrations
  3. Photography and Photojournalism
  4. Photoshopped Advertisement

Business Developments

  1. Postal Act of 1879
  2. Magazine's Business Content Changed in 1950s: TV emergence
  3. The Organization and Economics of Magazine Industry

(**)  Those three sections above focus on individual aspects of magazine industry, but do not follow the timeline. Thus, we created a timeline of magazine industry history from the beginning to current situation. You can see this this timeline to understand more how this industry began and developed in the past and what influenced it today. This timeline occupied little the present trend of magazine industry as well, but the prominent stories mostly are in the past. Therefore, we decided to put this timeline in Magazine Past part.

Our group should focus more on business developments of magazine industry. specifically, I think we will find statistics and examples of advertising and magazine's content when it moved online. We only had few days to finish this.

GUys, according to the presentation feedback he gave us, the technological innovations and business development of magazine industry were main keys of the magazine in the PAST, not the social field. -----------------> technology ---> priting press and photography. printing press was already presented by newspaper group so we should focus more on photography technology. business development ----> advertising revenue. Im doing facts in the past and Im so confused in statistics or comparison of ads revenue of magazine.

the key issues in the PRESENT are internet and digital era emerging and how magazine handled it. ----> ipads.... and how it works

I've just met the professor and I think our group will have some changes. The present will be all about the internet emerging such as iPads, tablets, how it change content of magazines, what challenging? And future is almost about predictions. I think we will talk more specific about this tmr.

I just created the timeline of magazine and I think we should put it here. More importantly, though I tried many times but I couldn't center it.
